For Inktober 2020 I used the challenge to build out the CC and Benson world. I explored new characters, locations, and story moments that my rabbit and bear characters could possibly encounter in a future book. It was exciting to live in their world for a month, and the challenge took me to some unexpected places.
1: Fish
2: Wisp
A wisp of smoke floats through the air as CC & Benson spend a quiet evening in the woods. Benson wore himself out reeling in that fish from yesterday.
3: Bulky
The shipment of bulky bone boxes needed to arrive on time. To save themselves time CC and Benson unknowingly cut through territory run by the Big Dog Gang and encountered one of their members.
4: Radio
CC and Benson test out their new radio equipment so they can contact each other in case phone lines are down. They take their delivery jobs very seriously.
5: Blade
CC got a deal on a used helicopter. Just needed a new set of propeller blades and a tune up. This thing should come in handy for deliveries in hard to reach locations.
6: Rodent
Figured I’d explore some more characters in CC & Benson’s world. This is Cogswell, a genius engineer, testing out his Ratbot X Model. Whenever CC has a technical problem he can’t figure out, Cogswell usually has a solution.
7: Fancy
Llarry is CC and Benson’s next door neighbor. He throws the BEST parties
8: Teeth
CC and Benson deliver a package to a little known island off the coast of Costa Rica, little did they know it was inhabited by dinosaurs!
I HAD to do a dinosaur for today’s prompt. What did you expect?😅
9: Throw
Luckily Benson made it across the bridge before it collapsed. But could CC make the throw??
10: Hope
Luckily they found another bridge. It would save them a day’s journey down and up the canyon. Though Benson hopes it holds their weight, he does not mind taking the long way!
I had such a hard time coming up with something for this one to the point that I was upset with myself for putting this word in the prompt list, haha.
11: Disgusting
CC & Benson stumble into some strange slime all over the trail. They need to get off this island!
12: Slippery
CC & Benson we’re finally able to get off the island with an abandoned sailboat they found. Unfortunately, the slippery edges and CC’s balance weren’t compatible.
13: Dune
CC & Benson find themselves lost in the dunes of the Sahara desert. Luckily they crossed paths with a traveling pack of fennec foxes who could show them the way.
14: Armor
CC & Benson deliver cream and chocolate syrup to a cohort of ice cream-selling armadillos in their armored ice-cream truck.
15: Outpost
More deliveries! CC and Benson make their way to a lonely outpost at the edge of the sea to replenish supplies.
16: Rocket
CC’s side project is starting to worry Benson a little bit.
17: Storm
Oh no! CC and Benson accidentally flew their airship into the middle of a storm!
18: Trap
The secret to trapping a Benson bear: cinnamon rolls.
19: Dizzy
On second thought, maybe riding “The Scrambler” was not a good idea.
20: Coral
Special delivery for Mr. Orson.
21: Sleep
After a long day of scuba diving the two get some much needed rest...well Benson does anyway.
22: Chef
Another day, another special delivery for CC and Benson.
At this point there was 9 days left and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t tired and didn’t want to quit. Haha. Inktober is HARD! I guess that’s why I subject myself to this torture every year. Nothing worthwhile comes easy. And I really like having a stack of new drawings on my desk at the end of the month. So I press forward and tried to finish strong!
23: Rip
FrankenCC and Bensonstien deliver a brain to a hungry client.
24: Dig
25: Buddy
Little Christopher Carrot met young Benson Brown in kindergarten and the two became best buddies ever since.
26: Hide
Going back to when CC & Benson were on the island and they narrowly escaped an allosaurus encounter. Good times!
27: Music
In college, CC and Benson had a metal band called: CC⚡️B. It didn’t go very far so the two got haircuts and started a delivery business.
28: Float
CC and Benson take their hot air ship for an evening flight.
30: Ominous
CC double checked to see if this was the right house for the delivery of 10 jars of newt eye balls. Meanwhile, Benson spots an ominous silhouette in one of the windows.
31: Crawl
After trekking through the Yukon in their snow crawler CC and Benson finally find Brandon the Yeti who special ordered a jar of jalapeños.
Aaaand that’s a wrap! Another Inktober project in the books. I only missed one day. My day job was pretty demanding this month, and I just couldn’t get a drawing in that one day. I thought I would go back and finish that drawing I missed, but honestly, I was really happy with the 30 that I did and decided to leave it as is. Inktober is only a challenge, and I definitely felt like I challenged myself this year, so I’m calling it a success!
BONUS DRAWINGS
In addition to the 31 prompts for Inktober I also did 4 custom prompts to promote @adultswim’s Primal show by creative genius @genndytartakovsky. Because of the prehistoric nature of the show, I thought I’d follow a day in the life of a parasaurolophus.
