For Inktober 2021 I used the challenge as a chance to do a bunch of drawings of my sci-fi characters combined with the prompts. These were eventually used as key art in a book proposal, and illustrations for my SPACESHIPS book.

2: SUIT
Sometimes Skull needs to bust out the suit when a friend is getting married.
3: Vessel
Star Princess Aven’s space vessel is a surplus ambulance from the Aquarius Conflict she’s converted into a home base for her operations.
4: knot
CATbot’s insides are a tangled knot of wires, tubes, and servos.
5: raven
Missile Mouse’s ride “The RAVEN” boasts superior AI and bird-like agility in flight.
6: spirit
The space spirit’s ethereal form manifested itself from the cracks in the asteroid. It presented the crystal, knowing the Star Catcher was worthy to carry it.
7: fan
Taking inspiration from the He-Man “Talon Fighter” for this one.
8: watch
9: pressure
So this guy is a new character. He’s known simply as the “Pressure.” Ex special forces. Takes the job of bounty hunting serious. Runs a tight ship and is efficient, methodical, and ruthless.
10: pick
Tronk, a moon troll, found honest work mining on the moon. His Power Pick is helpful in breaking through tough rock to find pockets of silicon.
11: sour
Felt like doing a comic page because I haven’t done one in over a year, and I need to get into shape. I can’t tell you how much I love doing this kind of stuff. I need to carve out more comic time in my schedule!

The beast burst through the roof. Skull had two options: Fight or Run.

Not sure why this tick is so interested in a bag of bones…

This space witch has been growing on me. But she doesn’t have a name yet. Any ideas??

The seedling sprouted a few weeks early. They were happy, but not quite ready for the new addition to the family.

A Tankium Warrior riding a wooly crab. These crabs are fiercely loyal to their trainers.
Drew this with a @kuretakejapan @kuretakezig_usa fountain brush pen. Love this pen. Pricey, but so good!

Stranded on an abandoned moon, out of fuel, and telecoms are down on his ship. As if his day couldn’t get any worse, skull discovers he’s not the only one on this forsaken rock.
I used a @kuretakezig_usa pen for the thick lines, and a @kingartcompany inkline for the thin lines. Manga screentone for the gradients.

“Don’t even think about it,” Skull breathed to the scrubgrackle as it positioned itself to “splat” something on his ride.
26: connect
Star Princess Aven scans the area, but the data won’t upload to her ship due to a bad connection.
27: spark
Return of the BLAZING BAT.
Fans of Missile Mouse will remember BB’s demise in the second book. I’m thinking of bringing him back as a full on Cyborg to take on Skull Chaser.

Aaaaand that’s a wrap! I didn’t quite get all 31 this year, but I’m really happy with what I did get.
